Summer Fun!

Howdy, folks! How's your summer been? Mine's been super duper busy, helping foster Mum and Dad keep the rest of the pack in line.

Did you know I'm a star? Foster Mum submitted my photo to the Edmonton Humane Society for their newest video of "upside-down" pets - and I made the cut! See me and some other silly pets hanging out upside down here (I appear at about 1:24):

I've been getting lots of recognition and the girls just won't leave me alone now that I'm a star! I've had to start going incognito when I go out in public.

I'm still waiting for my furever home, and so today I went and hung out with the nice people at Sleep Rover Doggie Hotel & Daycare, cause they were having a meet and greet for some of us foster dogs. Mum says I'm s'posed to say thank you to the nice Sleep Rover people for the great pics that I used for my blog today! It was lots of fun in the sun, and everyone is still so surprised that I haven't been adopted yet!

But that's okay - I'm can be very patient and Foster Mum tells me that the perfect home is out there. I can wait, I'm happy here, but it would sure be nice to have a home of my own! Don't worry, I'll be here when you call!

Sun, Fun, and Snoozin'

I've had a really busy few days, but I know my adoring fans are waiting for an update so I'll do my best to get this done before I have to get back to playtime at BowDog!

Foster Mum has been sick for the last few days, and it's been my job to take care of her. I made extra sure that she had lots of tissues on hand:

(Don't worry, it's only paper towel and Foster Mum wasn't mad cause she knew I was just trying to help. I think her cold medicine has her confused, though, cause she forgot my name is Bellagio and she keeps calling me "Brat".)

I felt kind of bad since my attempts to help made a bit of a mess for Foster Mum to clean up even though she was sick, so I made extra sure to keep all my toys together so she wouldn't trip on them.

On Sunday I went to the Kensington Sun and Salsa Festival to help Foster Mum volunteer at the AARCS booth and at the Actions Speak Louder (Calgary) booth. I met lots of new people and everyone was so impressed at how calm I am for such a young pup - I say, why waste energy running around greeting everyone when the people will come to you if you just give them "that look"? It was a very busy day and very hot so I was glad when Foster Dad came by to relax with me in the shade.

Hello!

Good to meet you! As the blog name implies, I'm Bellagio, and I'm a handsome young dog who is being fostered with the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society in Calgary.

I had a bit of a rough start - my littermates and I were found abandoned and we had never had any human contact so we were TERRIFIED - we didn't know what humans were and we didn't know they could be kind and good so we fought so hard to get away from them.

Lucky for us, AARCS has some pretty stubborn volunteers and they managed to get us away from the abandoned shed we were calling home and brought us to the city where we were all placed together in a foster home. Auntie Clarissa took such good care of us all and and Auntie Nicky spent so much time working with us that we all soon started to come out of our shells and learn that humans were good things and that we could relax because we'd never have to struggle to survive again.

When I was about 4 months old, it was decided it was time for me to be moved away from my littermates because I was being a bit of a bully and I was still scared of new experiences and other dogs. I just didn't understand that I didn't have to fight to protect myself and my siblings.

I was brought to a new foster home with a very nice couple that has FOUR other big dogs. I thought for sure this was the end - these dogs were going to beat me up, or worse.

But - funny thing happened - I met all the other dogs, one by one, and we all went for a nice long walk, and then I was able to explore the new house - and the big dogs let me be part of their pack. The humans were so nice to me but they wouldn't let me try to bully my way to get what I want and I learned so fast there was a place for me in this pack. I really like it here now!

There are big dog beds all over the place that I can snooze on and a big yard with long grass that i can snooze in and lots of places I can curl up and snooze.

You guessed it - Foster Mum says I'm pretty lazy. She says I'm the LAZIEST puppy she's ever met. I'm so happy to just go for a nice walk with my family and then curl up with a favourite toy and relax. Sometimes I like to see what interesting things are up on counters and sometimes I like to steal shoes but for the most part I just like to know where my people are and I will sit calmly and quietly watching everything that's going on.

My first few nights in this home, the people tried to put me in a crate in another room with the other dogs. I didn't like that. Foster Mum called it a "Battle of Wills". they soon moved my crate down to their bedroom and let the other dogs down there as well and I started sleeping through the night without a peep - Foster Mum thinks she won that battle but I think we all know it was me who won. I still don't like the crate as much but I like to go eat my food in there and I will go in there to have some alone time if I need it. I'm usually happiest when I can see where my people are, though.

Since I was scared of other dogs and I got used to my foster brothers and sisters so fast, Foster Mum thought it would be a good idea for me to spend daytime at a place called BowDog.
OH BOY is this ever a cool place!! They have a HUGE space for me to play in and I learned very quickly how to properly greet strange dogs - all the big dogs there were happy to show me the ropes and now I have SO MANY dog friends I can't keep track!

The nice people at BowDog say I'm pretty lazy too - they keep catching me taking naps all over the place when all the other dogs are playing - what can I say? I like a healthy balance of playtime and chillaxin'! I LOVE going to BowDog and I wait patiently by the front door every morning until Foster Mum is ready for work. She knows how much fun I have there because I fall asleep in the truck on the way home every day...sometimes in funny positions.

Other than that, I don't know what else I can tell you about myself! I'm a happy pup, I love to give kisses, I love pats on the head, I love to chase the tennis ball, and I LOVE people! I'm ready for my furever home - are you out there?
